January 23, 2026
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Milton Area School District is preparing for the possibility of a flexible instructional day (FID) based on the projected forecast that may impact school beginning on Monday, January 26, 2026.
The goal of a FID is to provide educational opportunities for students while avoiding disruptions to the current school calendar. This approach helps us maintain continuity without adding extra make-up days later in the year.
Below you will find information about what you and your child can expect should a FID be announced:
Elementary (Grades K–5) FID Expectations
· Teachers have prepared a take-home packet that includes reading and math assignments, along with one related arts activity based on the scheduled cycle day.
· The total amount of work is intended to not exceed one hour and will be appropriate for each grade level.
· Teachers will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. via District email or Rooms for questions and support, with a lunch break from 12:00–12:30 p.m.
Secondary (Grades 6–12) FID Expectations
· Each teacher will post a course assignment by 9:00 a.m.
· High school assignments will be available in Canvas, and middle school assignments will be posted in Rooms, including links to materials and submission locations.
· Related arts teachers at the middle school will post assignments according to the cycle day.
· All student work will be due by 3:00 p.m.
· Teachers will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. via District email or Rooms for questions and support, with a lunch break from 12:00–12:30 p.m.
If a FID is announced, we will communicate through Sapphire, TV and radio stations, social media, and the District website.
We understand there are varying opinions on the use of FIDs as well as make-up days that impact the school calendar. As a school community, we value your input as we continue to improve our processes. Upon completion of the FID, please share any feedback that could help us as we prepare the 2026–2027 school calendar by emailing me at jbickhart@miltonsd.org.
Please stay safe and continue to monitor updates regarding Monday’s weather,
Dr. John S. Bickhart, Superintendent
